Principles and Basis for Action

These are castings in their purest form in that the changes in reality wrought by the casting find their source in the union of qualities and essences from different planes of reality to create a synthesis of planes. The foundation for the mechanism of these castings is detailed in the introduction to this chapter.

Limitations and Precautions

All the rules of conduct and safety that apply to Quarters-cast Circles apply to those that use the Modalities. Additionally, the Modality of the sign that the Moon occupies at the time of the ritual has a significant impact. If the Moon's place matches the Modality of the ritual, the casting will require little effort (see the chart of correspondences earlier in this chapter). If the Moon is in the Modality prior to the one of the ritual, there will be some resistance. If it is in the Modality that follows the one of the ritual, then the resistance is greater still. Regardless of the Moon's sign, these castings may be used at any time—only the difficulty varies.
